Somerton Youth Organization Policy Page
Age Policy
A child must play in his or her age bracket.
It has always been and will remain the policy of Somerton Youth Org to have children play within their age group for all sports.
This is done to ensure a younger child does not displace a child the correct age from a team. It also helps maintain a competitive balance throughout the Organization. In order to remain fair to all families in the organization, the coaches and commissioners of all sports must know and enforce this policy.
There will be the following exceptions:
1) The youngest team in all sports shall allow younger children to tryout and participate if they make the team. (i.e. In soccer, a 6 year old can play on under 8 if he/she makes the team).
2) If there is no team at an age group, a child may tryout for the team in the next older age bracket.
3) If weight is an issue in football.
4) If there are not enough players at one age group, and "extra" players at a lower age group, then children will be allowed to be moved up to the older team at the discretion of the younger teams coach after consultation with the older teams coach.
5) In-house players may "play up" at the discretion
Supervision of Children
Parents are expected to be in attendance, or to have designated another adult to be responsible for their child while participating in SYO activites.
Uniform Distribution
SYO will enforce its existing policy to have ALL team members in ALL sports registered BEFORE uniforms are distributed.
Uniforms will be ordered through SYO.
Any team that has not registered all of its players and collected the uniform fees for the entire team WILL NOT be given uniforms. Any team that buys their own uniform without SYO approval will foreit their referee/umpire fees.
If payment for uniforms or registration causes a financial hardship, please discuss this at registration time or call for a private registration.
ALL registration info is confidential.
Uniform distribution will be done at the clubhouse by appointment with the commissioner of the corresponding sport.
How Do Things Get Done
SYO operates as a completely volunteer organization. No one person involved in our program is paid for their "work". The board of directors, ground crew, kitchen help, gym maintenance crew, coaches, etc all donate their time to help make SYO one of the most respected organizations in the area.
Their names are too numerous to mention, but thank you to everone who helps make Somerton what it is!
